Inaugural World Cultural and Natural Heritage Academic Forum

01 Background

Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, advocated that world cultural and natural heritage are important signifiers of human civilization and progress and promote exchanges between different civilizations. It is our shared responsibility to protect, pass on and utilize these precious resources prudently so as to ensure the continuity of human civilization and sustainable world development. To better promote the inheritance of traditional Chinese culture and ecological infrastructure, strengthen scientific conservation and reasonable utilization of cultural and natural resources, the UNESCO Chair and UNITWIN Program, driven by the Ministry of Education’s initiative for promoting interdisciplinary exchanges and talent cultivation, has launched the inaugural World Cultural and Natural Heritage Academic Conference on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention. This forum is organized by the Chair on Sustainable Tourism for UNESCO-listed Heritage Sites, the Chair on Living Heritage and Sustainable Development, the Chair on Cultural Resource Management, UNESCO Asia-Pacific World Heritage Training and Research Center (Shanghai, Beijing), School of Architecture (Tsinghua University), School of Archaeology and Museology (Peking University), Department of Cultural Heritage and Museology(Fudan University), School of Architecture (Southeast University), School of Architecture and Urban Planning (Tongji University), School of Landscape Architecture (Beijing Forestry University) and School of Tourism Management (Sun Yat-sen University).
