On December 15^th, 2021, the 2021 Nanjing World Historical & Cultural Cities Expo co-sponsored by UNESCO, China National Commission for UNESCO, the Publicity Department of Jiangsu provincial committee, and Nanjing Municipal Government opened. The theme of the expo is ‘Learning, Integration & Co-creation’. Guests from international organizations like UNESCO, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, cities on the ‘Belt and Road’, International friendship cities, Famous Historical and Cultural Cities at home and abroad, and World Cities Cultural Forum members, gathered in Nanjing and drew up a new picture of multi-cultural exchanges and symbiosis of the ‘Belt and Road’, and built sustainable development future for historical cities.

World Historical & Cultural Cities Expo was founded in 2004, so far, it has been successfully held 8 times. Nearly 300 mayors of famous historical and cultural cities from more than 80 countries and regions, thousands of internationally well-known experts and scholars, and representatives of international institutions and cultural enterprises have attended it. In 2013, the Organizing Committee and UNESCO became strategic partners. World Historical & Cultural Cities Expo has become an international platform supported by UNESCO to promote cooperation and communication among world historical and cultural cities and promote the development of cultural diversity.
